Plastic palletshave been available for years, though they are becoming increasingly popular right now, especially for export. Due to the ISPM-15 regulations, import and export of goods on timber pallets has become more difficult and even outlawed in some countries. This is due to concerns that the timber pallets may be carrying bacteria or other lifeforms that might cause damage to te ecosystem in the destination country. Use kiln dryed wooden pallets and fumigation at either end is still acceptable in some countries, though it adds expense and complexity to using wooden pallets for overseas cargo transport.
